Water man Dr Rajendra Singh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save life of river activist G D Agrawal and save Ganga river. Singh along with former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other river activists recently visited Delhi's Rajghat area to support G D Agrawal, renowned scientist, who has been sitting on dharna for more than two weeks on save river Ganga.
In a letter to Prime Minister written on Saturday, Singh expressed his concern over the slow progress by the administration in cleaning Ganga in the last four years. It may be mentioned here that clean Ganga is one of the most ambitious project of the the BJP led government. Extending support to Agrawal, Singh in the letter said that  Agrawal alias Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, an IIT Kanpur engineer, a renowned scientist, doyen of environmental engineers in India, former First Member Secretary (CPCB) has been associated in safeguarding the rivers of the country especially River Ganga which is considered the most pristine river flows from Himalayas. He has raised his voice and has been sitting on dharna at Rajghat for nearly two weeks. The activist reminded the government of its promise to make river Aviral ((flowing adequately))  and Nirmal ((pure and  unpolluted)) but nothing has happened.
"The last government stopped all projects under construction such as Loharinag-Pala Hydropower and two other projects and all developments on river Bahirathee to save Ganga.  This government has an opportunity to do the same on the Alaknanda but there is no attempt towards it.  That is the reason that Prof GD Agrawal is fasting and put his precious life is in great danger for Ganga & for the nation. Let the Government, wake up, stand up and act immediately", the letter said. Singh said that G D Agarwal struggle for Ganga cannot be ignored as the entire country is aware of his contributions and will not keep quiet if anything happens to him.
River activists  and human rights activists have planned a yatra from Rishikesh to Delhi. These activists will gather at Rajghat on July 20 in support of G D Agrawal and save river Ganga. Meanwhile, a petition on change.org has been filed in which a request has been made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on save river Ganga issue and save life of Agrawal.
